The Gypsy Vanner Horse is the“Vision Horse” that has developed
from years of careful breeding by Gypsy families in the UK. They were bred
for the purpose of being a part of the Gypsy family. That meant temperament
was and is a big part of the breeding. These horses pulled the Vardo wagon
which was the home of the Gypsy family. The Gypsy horse had to be people
friendly as they were traveling through crowded cities and events. In the
evenings children would play with and around the horses. This temperament is
still very evident in todays Gypsy Vanner Horses.

A Gypsy Horse had to be strong as well as flashy. The strength
is evident in the heavy muscle, large bones and thick neck of the Gypsy
Vanner Horse. The Gypsy Horse had to compliment the bright and beautiful
design of the Vardo wagon they were pulling. These

horses stand out with thick feather starting at the back of the
knee and covering the entire hoof. The Mane drops down over the entire neck
and a thick tail drags the ground. “With a sweet head and a kind eye these
horses are looked on in awe by those who have never before seen a Gypsy
Vanner Horse”.

Gypsy Vanner Horses were introduced to the United States around
1995. Along with the importing of these horses came the vision of quality
through selective breeding that was so important to the Gypsy people in the
UK. At Lucky Star Stables we hold fast to that vision and invite you to get
to know us and how magical these horses are.
